Google官方網站上的這篇”Search using your terms, verbatim“，說到在Google搜尋的簡單界面下，可以提醒使用者是否打錯字，可以自動建議使用者可能需要的關鍵字，更可以擴張使用者可能需要的搜尋結果。
在以前Google讓使用者可以使用”+”這個指令來搜尋特定的詞彙，例如「search+engine」而非「search」或是「engine」，但是Google發現使用這個方式搜尋的人非常少，並且大多時候，這個指令都被用錯了，因此現在已經取消了”+”這個指令，而希望使用者改用雙引號來表示希望搜尋的關鍵字，例如以”search engine”來表示搜尋結果不能只是出現「search」或是只出現「engine」，而是必須兩個同時出現，才是使用者需要的資料。
現在Google又推出Verbatim Search Tool，如下圖 (目前只有英文界面有此功能)
當進行搜尋時，在左下的選單上點選”More Search Tools”之後，就會出現”Verbatim”選項，點選之後就不再會替你出主意，也就是「取消」了下面的原本功能:
(1)making automatic spelling corrections ~ 自動拼字檢查
(2)personalizing your search by using information such as sites you’ve visited before ~ 已經點選過的網站受個人化影響
(3)including synonyms of your search terms (matching “car” when you search [automotive]) ~ 同義詞的出現
(4)finding results that match similar terms to those in your query (finding results related to “floral delivery” when you search [flower shops]) 類似詞的出現
(5)searching for words with the same stem like “running” when you’ve typed [run] 會進行字根的處理
(6)making some of your terms optional, like “circa” in [the scarecrow circa 1963] 某些詞可以有選擇性
也就是說，原本Google幫你進行某些搜尋協助，都因為使用者點選Verbatim Search而取消了，讓使用者以真正的exact match (完全符合)的方式來進行搜尋。
這個目的就是在某些情況，使用者真的要搜尋特定字串時，並不需要Google「幫倒忙」，因為Google的貼心可能會讓搜尋結果變得很多，例如使用者以「car」進行搜尋，未必會希望連「automotive」也一起當關鍵字，也就是希望使用Verbatim Search來過濾不必要的訊息。
而Google又表示: “we’re also applying similar ideas directly to our algorithms, such as tuning the accuracy of when our query broadening search improvements trigger. In the meantime, if you want to search for a very specific term, be that [carosel] or the [etymology of sissors], give the verbatim tool a try.” 除了提供Verbatim這樣的工具之外，也可能嘗試將類似的概念套用在演算法上面。
雖然目前這個功能並沒有出現在中文界面上，但是我們可以看到這個設計的背後，Google希望可以讓使用者縮小搜尋範圍的選擇，也就是如果以「搜索引擎」進行Verbatim查尋時，將不會再出現「搜尋引擎」的列表。
